Easter Egg Cozies

Spring has finally arrived here in New England. All of the snow and ice has melted -- blooming crocuses and daffodils have taken their place.  Each day more and more greenery emerges- every morning the transformation is refreshing and uplifting.  The hope of life is in the air!

With Spring comes the joy of celebrating Easter and taking part in all of its wonderful family traditions.  We love to decorate Easter eggs.  I have some great memories of decorating eggs with my siblings while growing up and then hanging our creations on an egg tree made by my mom.

This Egg Cozy design can be found in the current issue of Crochet Today!(April/May 2014)  I used Aunt Lydia's Size 10 Cotton Crochet Thread and a steel crochet hook. The egg bases that you see in the photo were egg forms I found at Hobby Lobby.  They are similar in look and feel to plaster and come in more than one size.  They are intended to be painted and decorated but we decided to keep them their original soft white color shown here so that the crochet stitches and details could be seen.

Each cozy is made up of 3 crocheted pieces - when it comes time to sew them together, I recommend gluing each piece in its place on the egg (with a small amount of hot glue) so it is easier to keep all the thread lengths and spaces even as you sew.

Happy Easter - Happy Resurrection Day!
